Article 6: History versus visions
Arguments:
- In order for history to guide our visions of the future, that history must be rooted in fact.
- When history is manipulated to support a particular vision or agenda, then it can no longer be trusted, because the "facts have been subordinated to visions" (277).
-History is a memory of the human race - it would almost be better to wake up with no memory than with one skewed, twisted, or simply created to further political interests.
-"Where beliefs are not checked against facts, but instead facts must meet the test of consonance with the prevailing vision, we are in the process of sealing ourselves off from feedback from reality. Heedless of the past, we are flying blind into the future" (291).
